This page lists every cookie and browser storage item used on ferntrailmarket.com, what each one is for, and how you can control them.
1. What Cookies Are
Cookies are tiny pieces of text a site leaves with your browser so it can recognise you from one page to the next. Local storage does a similar job, holding small notes inside the browser itself.
2. Cookies and Storage on This Site
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| __Host-ck | Necessary cookie | Holds your checkout session and ties the payment to your order | 90 minutes |
| fern-trail-cart | Local storage | Keeps the list of goods in your basket | Until you empty the basket or clear browser data |
| ft-cookie-choice | Local storage | Notes whether you accepted or rejected optional cookies, so we do not ask again on each page | Until you clear browser data |
The checkout cookie is marked HttpOnly and Secure: page scripts have no access to it, and it only travels over HTTPS.
3. Categories
Necessary. The basket and checkout need these to work. They cannot be switched off, and right now they are the only cookies on the site.
Measurement and advertising. None in use. Should that change, each one gets a row in the table above and stays off until you say yes in the cookie banner.
4. Third Parties
No third-party cookies are set by us. Choosing PayPal takes you onto PayPal's own site, and its cookie rules apply there. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, can add a brief security cookie to filter out automated traffic.
5. Changing Your Choice
The "Cookie settings" link at the foot of every page brings the banner back, so you can change your mind whenever you like. Your browser can also block cookies or wipe stored site data; look in the privacy section of Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge.
6. Blocking Cookies
If you block the necessary cookie, checkout will not work. If you clear local storage, your basket empties. The rest of the site keeps working either way.
7. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
If your browser is set to send Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, this site reads that as a no to anything optional, and those categories stay off.
8. Updates
Before we add or change a cookie, we update this page and the date at the top.
